How a referral is detected

A visit counts as an AI referral when it comes from a browser (not a bot) and either:
  1. its Referer is an AI engine’s domain, such as chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai or claude.ai, including subdomains, or
  2. it has no AI Referer but the landing URL carries a matching utm_source, such as utm_source=chatgpt.com.
Some AI apps, especially mobile apps, send no Referer at all. Those visits look like direct traffic to every analytics tool, so treat referral counts as a floor rather than an exact total.
